Volkswagen ID.4 Wins 2021 Save The Planet Award
Volkswagen recently announced that the 2021 Volkswagen ID.4 has won the Save the Planet Award in the 2021 CarBuzz Awards. The CarBuzz Save The Planet Award goes to the hybrid or electric vehicle that CarBuzz determines to best bundle fuel-saving (or eliminating) technology with qualities such as style, performance, and capability.
“With the 2021 ID.4, Volkswagen proves an electric vehicle can be fun and good for the planet at the same time,” says Jared Rosenholtz, CarBuzz Editor-at-Large. “The rear-drive ID.4 offers respectable power for a compact crossover, while the dual-motor all-wheel-drive model dials up the excitement with nearly 300 horsepower. We loved the ID.4’s nimble driving manners and premium interior. This car shows the VW is ready for the electrified era.”
Built on the brand’s MEB electric vehicle architecture (modular electric drive matrix), the ID.4 competes the compact SUV segment – the worlds largest market segment. The 2021 ID.4 RWD offers an 82kWh (gross) battery and a rear-mounted AC permanent-magnet synchronous motor with 201 horsepower and 229 pound-feet of torque; the ID.4 AWD adds an asynchronous electric motor on the front axle, bringing the maximum system output to 295 horsepower and 339 lb-ft of torque. The ID.4 Pro rear-wheel-drive models have an EPA-estimated 260 miles of range, while ID.4 AWD Pro models have an EPA-estimated 249 miles of range.
In addition to the 2021 ID.4 beating out finalists such as the 2022 Rivian R1T, the electric SUV has also taken home a Top Safety Pick + by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) and has been added to Ward Autos 10 Best UX list.
“We are thrilled to win the Save The Planet Award from CarBuzz,” said Scott Keogh, CEO, Volkswagen of America. “Volkswagen is committed to bringing e-mobility to the masses. The ID.4 is packaged and priced to win the hearts of American buyers, so they don’t have to choose between the functionality they need and zero-tailpipe emission driving.”
