Volkswagen Brings ChatGPT to its Vehicles
In a groundbreaking move towards enhancing in-car experiences, Volkswagen has announced the introduction of ChatGPT into its vehicles via its voice assist feature. Customers will have access to ChatGPT via Cerence Chat Pro, which will be available in most 2025 Volkswagen models.
“Volkswagen has a long tradition of democratizing technologies. As a volume manufacturer, we make these technologies accessible to large numbers of people. By seamlessly integrating ChatGPT into the backend of our voice assistant, we are now offering drivers the opportunity to use this artificial intelligence on a daily basis, thus underlining how innovative our products are,” said Kat Grunitz, Member of the Volkswagen Brand Board of Management responsible for Development, in a Volkswagen announcement.
A New Era of In-Car AI
VW’s decision to incorporate ChatGPT is a testament to the brand’s commitment to innovation. By bringing this powerful AI to the driver’s fingertips, Volkswagen aims to make driving not just safer and more efficient, but also more enjoyable and interactive.
ChatGPT’s integration into VW’s voice assist system will allow drivers and passengers to engage in more natural, conversational interactions with their vehicle. Whether it’s asking for directions, adjusting the climate control, or even having a casual conversation, the AI will provide responses that are more enjoyable and interactive.

Enhanced Driver Assistance
One of the key benefits of ChatGPT’s integration is its ability to assist with more complex queries. Traditional voice assistants often struggle with multi-step or nuanced requests, but with ChatGPT’s advanced capabilities, Volkswagen drivers can expect a smoother and more responsive experience.
For instance, instead of giving basic commands like “navigate to the nearest gas station,” drivers can ask, “Find the nearest gas station with the best prices and route me through a scenic drive.” ChatGPT can process these complex requests, delivering results that are more tailored to the driver’s needs.
Personalized Experience
Beyond navigation and vehicle controls, ChatGPT can also help personalize the driving experience. By learning from the driver’s preferences and habits, the AI can make suggestions based on past behavior. Imagine starting your morning commute, and ChatGPT automatically suggests playing your favorite podcast, adjusting the seat to your preferred position, or reminding you of your scheduled appointments for the day.
Volkswagen’s voice assistant will also be able to handle everyday tasks like sending messages, making calls, or setting reminders, all through simple voice commands. This means drivers can stay connected while keeping their hands on the wheel and eyes on the road, enhancing both convenience and safety.
Entertainment and Information Hub
With ChatGPT on board, VW vehicles become more than just a mode of transportation – they become a source of entertainment and information. Passengers can engage in conversations with the AI, ask trivia questions, get updates on news, or even request recommendations for music or audiobooks.
For families on long road trips, ChatGPT can keep kids entertained with stories, games, or interesting facts, making those hours on the road more enjoyable for everyone.
A Step Towards the Future
Volkswagen’s integration of ChatGPT is just the beginning of what promises to be a new ear in smart driving. As AI technology continues to evolve, so too will the capabilities of in-car systems. Volkswagen’s forward-thinking approach ensures that its vehicles are not only keeping up with the times but are also leading the way in redefining the driving experience.
